Project abstract:
Department: Institute of Non-Destructive Testing
Contract Type: Full Time Employment Contract
Period of employment: 2 years
Salary: 60 000 RUB/month
Project scientific advisor: Rychkov Maxim, Head of betatron laboratory
Features of research activity:
TPU is currently the world's only manufacturer of betatrons for commercial purpose. Many years of experience in the development and operation of these apparatus allowed creating a modern accelerator which meets the high requirements of the market. At the same time, a major drawback was revealed, because of which its use in solving many technical problems is limited - a relatively low intensity of the radiation (low accelerated current). At present the theory of obtaining high currents in the betatron does not give a clear idea of ways of development of methods, techniques, devices for this purpose, although the possibilities in the field of power electronics, microprocessor technology, new materials used in betatron-building, are widely used in the development of new betatrons and potential for their use is far from the limit.
Modern methods of simulation of physical processes allow conducting research with sufficient accuracy without referring to full-scale modeling. This will save considerable time and resources in solving applied tasks. The creation of mathematical models of physical processes of acceleration of charged particles in a circular electron accelerator with flexible input of initial conditions will reveal the main regularities of the formation of the accelerated beam in a betatron and suggest methods of its improving, which will undoubtedly expand the scope of radiation sources based on the betatron.
